A Living Gospel

Most of those whom Brother Charles was called to serve could neither read nor write.  He also knew that others who could read might never pick up the gospels of Jesus.  in light of this Brother Charles’ one desire was to become ”a living gospel” — to ”proclaim the gospel with my life”.

In his handbook for the fraternities Brother Charles wrote: ”By their example the brothers and sisters must be a living sermon: each of them should be an example of a life lived according to the Gospel. Looking at them, people should be able to see what the Christian life is, what the Good News is ... They should be a living Gospel”.

We are called to proclaim the Gospel more by who we are than what by we say. The witness of our life must be for others a reading of the Gospels. When others see us — they should see the Gospel.  We might be the only Gospel that some may ever read. That is why for us in the fraternity, dally reflection on the Gospels is not only necessary but vital — we must read and reflect over and over again on the  Gospels of Jesus — integrating them into our own lives so that God’s word will become enfleshed within us and our lives might truly become Good News for others — living Gospels.
